MATA Festival 2018
MATA celebrates the twentieth anniversary of its internationally recognized Festival of New Music with “ear-opening, satisfying music for every contemporary taste and philosophy” (Brooklyn Rail), on April 2 (Church of the Epiphany, Upper East Side) 10-14 (The Kitchen, Chelsea), and 21 (Imagine Swimming, Tribeca). Composers from every inhabited continent, twelve world premieres, including five MATA-alumni commissions, eleven American premieres, five New York premieres, singing apples, showering sopranos, a MATA’s Greatest Hits event, and the return–after 20 years–of Randy Hostetler’s P(l)aces. Performers include Mexico’s Liminar (in their East Coast debut), Sandbox Percussion, FOM: The Friends of MATA, and Contemporaneous, as well as a dream team of soloists.
