A holiday request
Dear Friends of New Music USA,
I started working here one year and three months ago, only nine months after the merger that formed New Music USA. What a time it has been! I’m privileged to come to work every day with our staff of intelligent and dedicated musicians, writers, advocates and administrators, people who believe passionately in the cause of new music, and our collective responsibility to ensure its future.
From our newly launched project grants to the hugely successful NewMusicBox Education Week just a few months back, there is a drive amongst this staff to develop programs that are as inventive and current as the music they are designed to put forward.
It is with this sense of dedication that we ask for your support this holiday season to help pay New Music USA expenses not covered by our endowment and institutional funders. About 10% of our contributed revenue has to come from people like you, individuals who believe in and benefit from our work.
Now it’s appealing to use those traditional fundraising tactics: “if everyone on this list gives 5 dollars today this campaign will be over,” “our programs do not have membership or application fees,” “during these challenging economic times, New Music USA continues to support and advocate for the music of our time.” All of those statements are true, but here’s the heart of the matter: if you care about our work please do what you can to support it.
Writing this letter has given me the chance to reflect on how lucky I am to be part of this community. I hope you’ll take a moment to reflect on this as well and, if you can, make a gift to New Music USA to help ensure its strong future.
On behalf of all of us at New Music USA, I wish you all the best for a beautiful holiday season and New Year.
