ICE’s Claire Chase receives MacArthur Fellowship
In case you missed NewMusicBox’s recent article on exceptional musicmakers Chris Thile, Claire Chase, and Benoît Rolland who were awarded MacArthur Fellowships (commonly called “genius grants”) for their contributions to the field, make sure you read up on these dedicated and extraordinary individuals.
We at New Music USA want to shine an extra spotlight on one MacArthur Fellow in particular: International Contemporary Ensemble‘s co-founder, Artistic Director, and flutist Claire Chase. Chase alone has premiered hundreds of new works and has helped propel the field of new music to new levels of awareness and popularity over the past decade through her invaluable work with ICE.
Get to know her more here:
Chase was awarded because of her “passion for and knowledge of contemporary music that prompts audience members to expand their aesthetic boundaries beyond the familiar canon to include works by young and emerging composers. […] As an entrepreneur, curator, educator, and musician, Chase is engaging audiences in the appreciation of contemporary classical music and opening new avenues of artistic expression for the twenty-first-century musician.
