OTONAL PRESENTS: GRAVITY GAMES: THE FUNDAMENTAL ASTRONAUTS’ PLAYLIST FOR APOLLO 11
Composers and Astronauts share a mutual love of exploration; consider how a person can feel awe and wonder by either hearing a live performance of an incredible symphony, or simply looking up at the stars.
In that spirit, the Otonal composers’ collective is asking for your help to produce an evening of string quartets in tribute to the greatest event in the history of mankind’s exploration– the Apollo 11 mission. To mark its 50th anniversary, we seek to honor the heroes of this exploration– physicists, mathematicians, technicians, and of course astronauts- by composing brand new, contemporary classical pieces inspired by the event and its nuances from fresh and unique angles.
The moon landing was a beautiful play of Newtonian physics. Similarly, Otonal will be playing “Gravity Games” with these compositions, exploring the push-and-pull of notes, chords, melodies, and ideas, all to arrive at a distant destination. Along the way, we are re-imaging the Apollo 11 astronauts’ playlist with an entirely new soundtrack.
Otonal is a NYC based collective comprised of composers from Juilliard, professional musicians, and/or multimedia artists.
