Event Information

The full CutTime Simfonica (string sextet+light drums) will feature many of Artistic Director Rick Robinson’s most dramatic and cathartic compositions and arrangements for the 50th anniversary of the Fair Lane Music Guild series, started by the late DSO bassist, Ray Benner. Rick Robinson is a former DSO bassist-turned-composer on a mission to broaden audiences for classical and symphonic music with casual, lively, eclectic, soulful, informative and demonstrative performances; a style he calls “new classical.”

What’s more, the very expressive Michigan Opera Theatre Concertmaster Eliot Heaton will join the group, sometimes improvising with Musique Noire violist Leslie DeShazor. Hand-drumming specialist Mike List will balance the silky strings there in the Pool Room of Henry Ford’s beautiful Fairlane Manor, perhaps blending some cool tabla with classical. Join us as Rick reveals his profound insights into and makes sense of written, instrumental classical music!

Tickets are $20 general seating and $10 for students. Seating is limited so contact pjschlaf@umich.edu or call (313) 593-5330, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m., Monday-Friday to reserve tickets.
