Kaija Saariaho: Émilie

Finnish composer Kaija Saariaho’s one-woman opera, Émilie, tells the story of Émilie du Chatelet, a philosopher, mathematician, physicist, and author of the early 1700s who mastered scientific knowledge as only few could at the time. Written for a single soprano soloist in nine successive scenes, this performance by Peabody’s contemporary chamber ensemble, Now Hear This, will feature a different soloist in each scene.
