Arizona Philharmonic will be performing Chris Jácome and Henry Flurry’s Impulso: Symphonic Dances for Marimba, Flamenco Guitar, and Dancer. Loosely modeled after a concerto for the three soloists, the jointly composed work is inspired by traditional flamenco song forms and compás. The dancer’s footwork is notated as a percussion instrument that integrates tightly with the marimba, flamenco guitar, and orchestra. Chris Burton-Jácome is an international flamenco guitarist and composer of the flamenco tradition. Henry Flurry is an award-winning orchestral composer noted for his variety of tonal and Neo-tonal styles. Featured soloists are Chris Burton-Jácome on flamenco guitar, Lena Jácome as dancer, and Maria Flurry on marimba. Maestro Peter Bay of the Austin Symphony conducts.
