The pianist Marino Formenti has spent his entire life rethinking the concept of the piano recital. Especially in the past two decades, Formenti has devoted himself to projects that create new contexts for listeners to experience and contemplate the music he cares about. On Feburary 11, 2019, Marino will debut a recital entitled ‘MA MORT.’ This concert, whose title is derived from Froberger’s “Meditation sur ma mort future” (“Meditation upon my future death”), will feature works by baroque composers such as Couperin, Frescobaldi, Froberger and d’Anglebert seamlessly intertwoven with works by avant-garde giants such as Salvatore Sciarrino, Harrison Birtwistle, Wolfgang Rihm and Galina Ustwolskaja (with cameos by John Cage and John Lennon.) This concert contemplates the ideas of endings and beginnings – our hopes and despairs – the many feelings that the temporal framework of life provokes in us all.
