R. Andrew Lee premieres a new work by Bryan Christian, “Each flows into the other.”
Throughout the course of this two-hour piece, sixteen electronically-produced drones slowly descend, intersecting with all 88 pitches of the piano. At these intersections, the tones fade out and the pianist is offered a window of improvisation. The pianist moves through every key signature and responds to a wide range of emotive performance indications, exploring the vast possibilities of the instrument. Yet the sixteen drones continue their steady decent, creating a sense of unity and inevitability to the entire work.
The performance will take place in the St. John Francis Regis Chapel on the campus of Regis University. Free parking is available just north of the chapel off 52nd and Lowell.
