Event Information

The Opposable Thumb is a new opera about a young woman determined to escape the mayhem that descends upon a zoo when war strikes. Based on various true accounts of the last two hundred years, this fascinating work questions whether mankind is superior to the animals that are contains behind the bars of the zoo’s cages, or just another ape with an opposable thumb, and a trigger pulling finger.

Join us for a first look at this exciting new opera being developed at ALT, by librettist Julian Crouch and composer Liliya Ugay, resident artists in the composer librettist development program. The Living Libretto features a libretto reading of the opera-in-progress, followed by a discussion with the writers.

All ticket holders are also invited to a post-performance wine and cheese reception and to meet the creative artists.

This event is supported by a grant from New Music USA.
