The Dessoff Choirs and Orchestra usher in the winter solstice with Margaret Bonds’ The Ballad of the Brown King, a holiday cantata focusing on Balthazar of the Three Kings and coincides with the release of the premiere recording of this work. The text was written by Langston Hughes and the entire work was written in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr.. In addition, the concert will included seasonal repertoire and contemporary arrangements of carols concluding with Silent Night by candlelight and the “Hallelujah Chorus” from Handel’s Messiah. Welcome Yule is the perfect way to shepherd you into the holiday spirit.
