Music Alive Composer-in-Residence Theodore Wiprud’s new work, Wind of Many Voices, reflects on his travels and adventures in South Dakota – its landscapes and peoples and history. The premiere will be preceded by three short works for full strings from the Composition Academies for teen-aged Native Americans from the Pine Ridge and Sisseton Reservations and from Rapid City. These young composers – mentored by Mr. Wiprud and a dedicated team of composers – will be present to introduce their works.
Also on the program: Philadelphia Orchestra Concertmaster David Kim returns to the SDSO with perhaps the greatest violin showpiece ever composed, Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto. The sublime Symphony No. 7 of Sibelius rounds out the program.
