World Premiere of “Four Third Streams” for wind quintet by composer DOUGLAS HEDWIG.
On Sunday, January 27 at 3 PM, the Chattanooga Symphony Wind Quintet will perform the world premiere of Four Third Streams – a four-movement, 20-minute composition for flute, oboe, clarinet, horn and bassoon. The title of the work comes from the phrase created in the late 1950’s by composer, conductor, and former MET Opera Orchestra horn player Gunther Schuller. Third Stream music is a style of music that fuses Western classical music and American jazz. Each movement of “Four ThirdStreams” is influenced or inspired by jazz music in some way, yet always within a contemporary classical chamber music setting, that will be sure to engage, challenge, entertain and reward listeners.
