Martha Mooke: Walls, Windows, and Doors

“If the opportunities don’t exist, I make them.”

In any given week, Martha Mooke could be performing a solo concert on her electric five-string viola, playing in a symphony or Broadway pit orchestra, touring either with a famous rock musician or one of her own improvisational groups, and/or giving educational clinics to young string players on how to find their musical voice. As she explained to Frank J. Oteri, she views each of her musical activities as an opportunity not just to break through walls, but to open doors or to look out through a window in a new way.
