Alejandro BasultoHouston, TX
Alejandro Basulto-Martínez, a mexican born composer and conductor, holds a bachelor degree from the “Conservatorio de las Rosas” (cum laude) and graduate diplomas in Film Scoring and Orchestral Conducting from the ESMUC (Barcelona, Spain) . He earned the Fulbright-García Robles scholarship to study a Master Degree in Music Composition at the Moores School of Music-University of Houston, under the guidance of Dr. Rob Smith (composition), where he is the Assistant Director of AURA Contemporary Music Ensemble. He has been awarded in national and international music composition competitions and his music has been performed in Mexico, Spain, the US, Japan and Rumania, by renowed performers like the Bratislava Symphony Orchestra, Cuarteto Latinoamericano, Mexico City Wood Wind Quintet, among others.
Música de Cantera
“Música de Cantera” (Spanish for “Quarry’s Music” is inspired by the several buildings made of cantera rosada (Spanish for “pink quarry”, a colorful kind of stone used in the Pacific Coast of México) in the downtown of the colonial city of Morelia, Michoacán, México. The music itself imitates how this stone is used to build. Consequently, the music is composed for small phrases that are repeated, orchestrated and varied in several ways, like a music mosaic. Structurally, this piece is a Rondo, with each rotation in a different metric modulation
