One of the few the professional dance companies In the United States to be led by an Asian-American woman, the Nai-Ni Chen Dance Company has been developing new works for the past twenty-five years. Ms. Chen, formerly a principle dancer from Taiwan’s Cloud Gate Dance Company, established her own Company in 1988 in Fort Lee, NJ with a mission to create innovative, cross-cultural dances and strive to maintain a world-class dance company which promotes global understanding.
Since then, the Company has received over 20 awards from the National
Endowment for the Arts as well as support from the President’s
Committee for the Arts, The US State Department, Trust for Mutual
Understand , Chase Foundation and the Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation which have helped the Company to tour both nationally for 16 years and
internationally, at festivals in Germany, Poland, Lithuania, Russia, China,
Korea and Mexico and Guatemala. The company has also received strongs support from New Music America/American Music Center’s Live Music for Dance program to develop collaborative work with world-renowned composer and musicians such as Joan La Barbara, Jason Kao Hwang, Kenji Bunch, Gerald Chenoweth, Tao Chen, the Ahn Trio and Glen Velez.

Chen Dance Company brings an extensive residency program to many diverse communities in the New York and New Jersey area.
