Benjamin Cold has received honorable recognition as a gifted performer and his talents have included performance tours throughout the United States as well as Ireland, London, and Canada. He is an actively performing soloist and has had the privilege of performing a variety of concerti through competitions and guest performances including, but not limited to Paul Creston’s Concerto for Alto Saxophone and Band (2010), Robert Jager’s Concerto for Alto Saxophone and Brass Ensemble (2011), Carter Pann’s A Spanish Silhouette (2012), and William Bolcom’s Concerto Grosso (2013). Benjamin Cold is an active supporter of new and contemporary music and through his dedication has premiered a large body of new works for saxophone including Ryan Laney’s Concerto for Saxophonist, a 30 minute concerto for Soprano, Alto and Baritone Saxophone written and dedicated to Mr. Cold. This work was premiered in the spring of 2012 and was accompanied by the Kansas State University’s premiere wind ensemble.
As an experienced educator, Mr. Cold currently maintains his private saxophone studio and instructs student and professional chamber groups throughout the twin cities. Additionally, he has given guest lectures and performances at universities throughout the country dedicated to significant saxophone repertoire, including Christian Lauba’s Hard and Ingolf Dahl’s Concerto for Alto Saxophone and Orchestral Winds. Mr. Cold has experience teaching in higher education, and actively assists Professor Eugene Rousseau in instructing his undergraduate students and saxophone quartets. He has worked as a teacher and counselor at music camps, including the Kansas State University Music Camp and the Shell Lake Arts Center Jazz Camps in Shell Lake, WI.
