"San Diego Sings! Festival 2015"

"San Diego Sings! Festival 2015" is an opportunity for the San Diego public and visitors to hear 20 of the area’s best choirs in a beautiful venue, the Spreckels Organ Pavilion in Balboa Park.  Admission is free.  The festival is a celebration of the diversity of choral music in San Diego.  We hope that as a result of attending the festival, the public will have a greater appreciation for the wealth of choirs in our community and be inspired to join a choir to sing themselves and to attend more choral concerts in the future."

"In addition to sequential fifteen-minute performances by the 20 participating choirs, the festival will feature a massed choir sing with 1000 voices and the Spreckels Organ.  [They will present the world premiere of "How Can I Keep From Singing?" by composer Bradley Nelson, commissioned by the Consortium for this event].  The audience will be invited to join in singing with the massed choirs, and to visit information booths to learn more about the choirs. Opportunity drawings will take place throughout the day to award audience members for supporting the choirs in various ways."
~ Carol Manifold, President – Choral Consortium of San Diego

The Choral Consortium of San Diego is inaugurating the city’s first annual "SAN DIEGO SINGS! FESTIVAL 2015" at Balboa Park’s Spreckels Organ Pavilion on March 21, 2015.  Twenty choirs from throughout the San Diego region will participate. This festival will be broadly inclusive of a variety of choirs and will be FREE to the public. The Consortium has commissioned Bradley Nelson to compose the feature work to be premiered by a massed choir of 1000 voices.

This remarkable musical event will coincide with the 100th Anniversary of San Diego’s famous Balboa Park which was built for the Panama-California Exposition in 1915.  For ten decades, the park has been an important center for cultural events of all kinds including – weekly concerts in the Organ Pavilion, musicals at Starlight Bowl, and plays in the world-famous Old Globe Festival Theater.

The Choral Consortium of San Diego (CCSD) is a 501c3 membership organization composed of choruses from throughout San Diego County. Our mission is to promote the choral art in the San Diego region through cooperation, public awareness, and performance. All San Diego area choirs are welcome to participate.
