La Figlia che Piange “The Girl who Cries” by Dante Luna and Cassandra Venaglia
La Figlia che Piange (The Girl who Cries) is a conceptual album inspired by the T.S. Elliot poem. In the story, a man leaves his lover and spends “many hours, many days” reflecting and longing for her. Meanwhile, the woman resents him for his absence.
In this album, we seek to display a conversation, a dichotomy between both lovers, their love, beauty and fond remembrance for each other. Finally, we seek to show how relationships between two people are simply complicated and how even when we choose to end things and how love remains eternal.
Experiment with Haikus
A series of haikus created at random words from a vocal pedagogy book help to create a space for words, a type of structured deconstruction. Underneath the clinical and technical words, there is a hidden layer of meaning. One can feel emotionally constrained when another person refuses to let go of once-shared love, causing the other person to feel suffocated in this relationship.
Dark and Light for String Quartet (Four String Voices)
Dark and Light is an abstract collage of my dreams and what I consider “drone canons”, and the need for justice. This piece came shortly after the announcement that President Trump won the election in 2016. I believe that this work was and is a manifestation of my subconscious of everything that is wrong with the United States. It is a moment to reflect on peace and strife, simultaneously, a contradiction, “organized chaos” as one audience member called it.
