David Garner (b.1954) has taught at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music since 1979.
Recent news: Three Carols was recorded by the New Century Chamber Orchestra for Pentatone Classics in December of 2014 at Skywalker Sound. The work features soprano Lisa Delan and baritone Lester Lynch with the New Century Chamber Orchestra. Lyrics are by Thomas Breidenthal. The CD will be released in November of 2015.
Centaur Records will release Surviving: Women’s Voices, in the winter of 2015, The CD contains four song-cycles that are the culmination of Garner’s collaboration with the Jewish Music and Poetry Project.
Selected arias and ensembles from Garner’s new opera, Mary Pleasant at Land’s End, (libretto by Mark Hernandez), will be performed April 4, 2016 in San Francisco. Full workshops of the opera will occur during 2016, with first-run performances estimated for 2018.
