Kaleidoscope Chamber Orchestra

Los Angeles, CA

Founded in 2014 and currently in our sixth season, Kaleidoscope is a conductorless orchestra dedicated to enriching lives through exhilarating concert experiences, artistic excellence, musician leadership, and connecting with the diverse communities of Los Angeles. Recently featured in the Los Angeles Times, Washington Post, Huffington Post, Musical America, and Symphony Magazine, Kaleidoscope performed 77 concerts in the past year in venues such as Walt Disney Concert Hall, the Musco Center for the Arts, the Hammer Museum, the Huntington Library, Hahn Hall at the Music Academy of the West, and Zipper Hall at the Colburn School. Over 80% of our concerts in recent years have also been free performances at title I schools, hospitals, homeless shelters, partnering with organizations such Esperanza Elementary School, the Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles, Union Rescue Mission on Skid Row, among many others.

In our first five seasons, Kaleidoscope has performed over 100 works by living composers. Most of these works came from our annual call for scores, which most recently received over 2200 applications from composers in 90 countries. Kaleidoscope will also be premiering three commissions in 2019 by Danny Clay, Gabriella Smith, and Viet Cuong, and 20 commissions in 2020 by Andy Akiho, Anna Clyne, Augusta Read Thomas, Billy Childs, Christopher Cerrone, David Hertzberg, Hannah Lash, Joel Hoffman, Julia Adolphe, Krists Auznieks, Libby Larsen, Melinda Wagner, Melissa Dunphy, Natalie Dietterich, Pamela Z, Peter Shin, Sarah Kirkland Snider, Stephen Hartke, Ted Hearne, and Will Healy.
