Fabian BeltranNew York, NY
Fabian Beltran was born in Colombia where he became interested in art and music at an early age. Without any formal training, he became proficient in multiple musical instruments while performing and composing an extensive range of genres. His compositions combine elements of traditional, contemporary, popular, and folk music styles.
Fabian has been the recipient of multiple composition awards including the Texas Young Composers Competition (Russell Horn Award), UTSA Reed Holmes Composition Award, UTSA College of Fine Arts Music Competitions in 2013 and 2014, the Memphis Belvedere Chamber Music Competition (2nd place), and was one of the winners of the 2015 Indiana State University Music Now competition.
Additionally, his music has been selected by artists and ensembles across the U.S. and has been featured in venues such as Carnegie Hall, National Sawdust, Symphony Space and at a number of festivals including Atlantic Music Festival, Fresh Inc, the Soundscapes at the Blanton Museum of Art in Austin, the Kansas City Electronic Music and Arts Alliance, the Vox Novus Concert Series in NYC, the Laser-T-Soundtrack Project in Los Angeles, the Aquila Summer Concert Series in Colorado, the Portico Dance Theater production of Oklahoma, the Young Dancemakers Company of NYC and productions of Teatro Libre in Bogota, Colombia.
Fabian holds a B.A. in music composition from the University of Texas at San Antonio, where he studied with Ethan Wickman, and an M.M. from the Manhattan School of Music where he studied with Richard Danielpour. Presently, he is pursuing his composition doctoral studies at New York University where he is a Ph.D fellow.
Besides composing, Fabian is also an active performer, amateur painter, and one of the co-founders of Sforzando Composer’s Collective—an association that is active in the promotion, organization, and creation of new music and multidisciplinary works in New York City, where he resides with his wife.
