FRANK LONDON (composer)is a Grammy award winning composer, trumpeter and bandleader, founder of the renowned KLEZMATICS, and featured on over 300 recordings with a range of artists including John Zorn, LL Cool J, Mel Tormé, Lester Bowie’s Brass Fantasy, LaMonte Young, They Might Be Giants, Jane Siberry, Mark Ribot, Michael Tilson Thomas, and Itzhak Perlman. International festivals from North Sea Jazz Festival to Tokyo Arts Festival to Lincoln Center Out-of-Doors. Recent commissions: Austria’s “Glatt und Verkehrt Festival"; Sejny, Poland’s "Musician’s Raft”; and "Todos Os Voces Do Mundo" in São Paulo, Brazil. Theater projects: Musical Director for David Byrne/Robert Wilson’s The Knee Plays, world tour and Carnegie Hall; Jewish folk-opera A Night In The Old Marketplace co-created with Glen Berger and Alex Aron, (Frederick Loewe Award 2004). Green Violin, dir Elise Thoron, the tragic story the Soviet Yiddish Theater and its principals, Solomon Mikhoels and Marc Chagall, was presented by the Jewish Museum, Amsterdam Jewish Music Festival, in St. Petersburg, Russia (Barrymore Prize for best New Musical Score). Additional compositions: Tony Kushner’s A Dybbuk; Vit Horejs’ epic telling of the history of the Lower East Side, Once There Was a Village and GOLEM; John Sayles’ The Brother from Another Planet; Pilobolus Dance Theater’s Davenen; Great Small Works’ The Memoirs of Glikl of Hamelin; and Min Tanaka’s Romance; and for documentary films The Shvitz, A Cantor’s Tale, and Divan (Winner, Best Soundtrack, Monaco Film Festival).
