Cellist Greg Hesselink has distinguished himself for 20 years in the world of new music as a member of Sequitur, the Locrian Chamber Players, Newband, and the Naumburg winning New Millennium Ensemble. He is also principal cello of the Riverside Symphony, and has performed with Orpheus Chamber Orchestra and the American Symphony. Greg is a former member of the Manhattan Sinfonietta and the Bang on a Can "Spit" Orchestra, and has also performed with many other established new music ensembles including Speculum Musicae, New York New Music Ensemble, Da Capo Chamber Players, Argento, Talea, the Group for Contemporary Music, League ISCM and the Flux Quartet. Greg has premiered more than 150 works including concertos by James Tenney (on the tenor violin) Ross Bauer and Daniel Weymouth. Performances with Dance companies include Cedar Lake, Mark Morris, Merce Cunningham, Nai Ni Chen and Cherylyn Lavagnino Dance.
Performance venues include Lincoln Center, Library of Congress, Donaueschinger Musiktage (Germany), Spoleto Festival (Italy), Salihara Festival (Indonesia), Klasik Keyifler (Turkey) and other festivals throughout north America, Europe and Asia. Greg is also active as a teacher, currently on the faculty of Mannes pre-college, and teaching each summer at Apple Hill.
