Hardedge (Velibor Pedevski) is a sound designer /electronic artist based in New York City.
He has recorded 15 albums as a leader and co-leader, all released on his Hardedge record label. Eight duo albums with the cornetist Graham Haynes, all of them recorded at some of the most prestigious venues in New York City, and in Europe; one duo cd with trumpeter/composer, Wadada Leo Smith; three cds with DarkMatterHalo, an ensemble he co-leads with the guitarists Brandon Ross, and Doug Wieselman, and three solo electronics albums.
Hardedge has also recorded with Wadada Leo Smith (Rosa Parks: Pure Love, an Oratorio of Seven Songs; String Quartet No. 12; Cosmic Music), and has performed many times with him in various settings, from duets, to string quartets, to large acoustic, and electric ensembles.
He is also a member of a few groups led by Brandon Ross: Phantom Station, (Yet) Another Plane, and Pendulum.
He has taught the required ‘Contemporary Jazz and Its Exponents’ course at the New School University from 1993 until 2006, and has been a guest lecturer at the Manhattan School of Music, as well as at the Czech Institute in New York City.
From 1991 until 2016 he has worked as a concert coordinator and artists representative for just about every important creative musician of the last few decades: Cecil Taylor, Anthony Braxton, Wadada Leo Smith, Henry Threadgill, Muhal Richard Abrams, Roscoe Mitchell, Ronald Shannon Jackson, Kip Hanrahan, Lawrence D. Butch Morris, John Lurie & The Lounge Lizards, Sam Rivers, Andrew Hill, The Art Ensemble of Chicago, Leroy Jenkins, Regggie Workman, a.o.
In 1996, he co-founded Braxton House, a record label exclusively dedicated to the music of Anthony Braxton, with releases ranging from solo alto saxophone to a 4-act opera.
In 2003, he started a new label, Hardedge, first to release a Henry Threadgill’s Zooid LP, and after that to become a home to his own music and various projects with total of 16 releases to date (2020).
Hardedge has also had a long career as a minimal-techno DJ, performing regularly between 2002-2015, and having an opportunity to present that aspect of his artistry at some of the best venues in New York City (Webster Hall, Irving Plaza, The Bowery Ballroom, Highline Ballroom, Joe’s Pub, a.o.).
Also, he’s a long time music journalist (1978-2016).
