James Young

Baltimore, MD   

James Young is a composer of music. He lives and works in Baltimore as an educator, musician, and executive director of the Occasional Symphony. James has enjoyed a growing connection to Charm City, scoring music for silent hour films and video games, working with MICA students as part of the Synesthesia concert series, and putting on other random music shows about town in interesting spaces.

Traveling from Banglewood to NUNC, June in Buffalo to the BGSU New Music Festival, he has been read and performed by many groups across the US including the Baltimore Symphony, the Birmingham Contemporary Music Group, the Talujon Percussion Quartet, Waco Symphony Orchestra, and the avant-garde music troupe, Bonecrusher.

James has received a doctorate in music composition from the Peabody Institute under the guidance of Michael Hersch. He was a recipient of the Moritz von Bomhard Fellowship in music composition at the University of Louisville, where he obtained his masters degree.
