Justin Mathews

New York, NY

Justin Mathews is a guitarist, composer and engineer. His work straddles the pop, avant-garde and soul worlds, with a penchant for the fantastic, fabricated realities of science fiction, “street goth,” Bill Laswell’s “collision music” and Brian Eno’s cerebral novelty. He attended New School University and resides in Manhattan. Performance highlights include “Shake The Stars With Your Song” at the Whitney Museum, a tour with Jarina De Marco & Wyclef Jean, a tour with Sevyn Streeter, a tour with Ravaughn, and a U.S. State Dept tour with Mariami in Tbilisi and Batumi, Georgia. He has been awarded NPR’s “Best Songs of 2013” for Jarina De Marco’s “El Venao”.

Sevyn Streeter performs Aaliyah’s “Come Over”

Sevyn pays tribute to Aaliyah by covering “Come Over.”

While out on promo tour, Sevyn made a trip to Aaliyah’s high school in Detriot. The singer was touched by her experience there, the aspiring performers she met, and began to process exactly how much impact one artist can have on generations to come.

She penned an open letter to Aaliyah and is releasing this cover of “Come Over” as a tribute with The Warner Sound.
