KIMMEL CENTERPhiladelphia, PA
Since opening in 2001, Kimmel Center, Inc. has become Philadelphia’s most impactful entertainment destination. The campus includes five theatres, a public plaza and four event spaces. With more than 1,457 performances and events per year and an annual attendance of 1,022,007, Kimmel Center is one of the most widely attended cultural institutions in the Greater Philadelphia region.
In relationship to per capita (reach) impact, Kimmel Center is the 2nd most impactful performing arts center in the United States – second only to the Kennedy Center. With 9,000 seats per night, it is the second largest performing arts center in the nation, just behind Lincoln Center. Kimmel Center’s mission is to operate a world-class performing arts center that engages and serves a broad and diverse audience from throughout the Greater Philadelphia region. Kimmel Center owns and manages the ongoing operations of the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts, which includes:
- Verizon Hall, a 2,500 seat concert hall;
- Perelman Theater, a versatile 650-seat theater;
- SEI Innovation Studio, an intimate “black box” theater; and
- Commonwealth Plaza, a small stage for free public events.
Kimmel Center also manages the operations of the nearby Academy of Music and Merriam Theater, 2,900 and 1,800 seat proscenium theatres, respectively. The campus allows us to provide a home for eight Resident Companies: Philadelphia Orchestra, American Theater Arts for Youth, Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia, Opera Philadelphia, The Philly Pops®, Pennsylvania Ballet, PHILADANCO and Philadelphia Chamber Music Society.
Kimmel Center and its supporters believe that the arts are an essential part of life and community and are committed to serving the many diverse communities of the Greater Philadelphia region. To that end, we provide a rich diversity of performances to the region, complimented by a full menu of free educational offerings and community programming. We present a wide variety of genres including classical, Broadway, jazz, world, pop, dance, hip hop, new music, gospel and children’s attractions.
