Kitty McNamee is a highly regarded choreographer, earning distinction from Dance Magazine as an artist with “an outsize talent for that most elusive gift, originality.” She is the artistic director of Hysterica Dance Co., a consistently prolific and invigorating force in the Los Angeles dance community. Recent highlights with Hysterica include The Getty Center, Minimalist Jukebox with The LA Philharmonic at Disney Hall, hysterica x (celebrating the company’s 10th anniversary) at the Ford Amphitheatre and performances at REDCAT, LACMA, Dorothy Chandler Pavilion and Highways.
McNamee brings her passion and unique voice to television, film and live performances, most recently as choreographer for LA Philharmonic, Secret Cinema and British artist Laura Marling. Her work includes original productions for National Choreographer’s Initiative, LA Ballet, LA Opera, San Francisco Opera, Lyric Opera of Chicago and LA Philharmonic. McNamee, known for drawing out sophisticated and engaging performances, has coached and choreographed for TV and film artists including Paz Vega, Julianne Hough, Margaret Cho, Vanessa Williams, Lily Tomlin, the boys of 90210 and the ladies of the L-Word. She was recently nominated for Best Choreography by the UK Video Music Awards, and a World Dance Award for Laura Marling’s Master Hunter.
McNamee is passionate about collaborating and developing new works with fellow artists, particularly composers. She has co-created several critically acclaimed works with Grammy-Award winning, British-born composer Anna Clyne, including Colony for the L.A. Ballet; Fits + Starts for Chicago Symphony’s MusicNOW; and Victorious for Hysterica Dance Company.
