I'm Listening To

Lainie Fefferman

Brooklyn, NY

Exploring the personal and the idiosyncratic aspects of music-making, composer Lainie Fefferman has recently received commissions from Sō Percussion, JACK Quartet, ETHEL, Experiments in Opera, pianist Kathleen Supové, electric guitar quartet Dither, TILT Brass, Transient Canvas, guitarist James Moore, bassist Eleonore Oppenheim, and Newspeak. Her recent performance projects include White Fire, a one-woman band of processed vocals and live electronics and Sideband, a touring laptop ensemble. Fefferman is the founder and co-director of Exapno, a New Music Community Center in Downtown Brooklyn, lead-organized the New Music Bake Sale, and is a co-founder of the New Music Gathering, an annual national New Music conference/festival hybrid.  She received her doctorate in composition from Princeton University where she worked primarily with Paul Lansky and Dan Trueman. She recently joined the lovely Music and Technology faculty at Stevens Institute of Technology.
