Matthew SchlatterBrooklyn, NY
Matthew Schlatter is a composer and performer living and working in Brooklyn, NY. His most recent project is a collaboration with singer/composer Alaina Ferris. Together, they sing language-forward, folk-oriented duets with a focus on the harmonic interplay of their two voices – all over a bed of electronic washes of designed sound. They recently contributed a song for the gallery opening of The Dreams I Gave Her for the NARS Foundation Gallery in Brooklyn, NY. They are currently working with New Georges on a multidisciplinary, site-specific theater and music piece titled Nothing’s Going to Change My World.
Matthew was recently selected as a month long composer-in-residence at the Woodstock Byrdcliffe Guild. He composes for and performs with the new music ensemble Marigold Opera, an eclectic mix between a chamber group and rock band that he leads with co-composer Nathan Cooke. Matthew is also the leader and songwriter for the avant-indie rock band Instrument Thieves and has performed at many of the premier live music venues in NYC, such as Glasslands Gallery, Rockwood Music Hall, and Pianos, as well as at DIY Bushwick staples such as The_Hose and Bohemian Grove. He lives and Kensington, Brooklyn, and teaches guitar and piano lessons at his home.
