Null PointBuffalo, NY
Null Point is an initiative in Buffalo (NY) for new concert music and sound art by emerging artists. Committed to both experimentation and accessibility, Null Point’s events re-imagine musical and sonic presentation formats while engaging marginalized local populations and spaces. Projects include presentations of new site-specific sound works in vacant Buffalo industrial ruins, thematically-curated concerts focusing on limit situations of performance and audition, and participatory workshop-concerts in traditionally working-class neighborhoods.
Null Point has presented world and continental premieres of works by Alejandro Acierto, Abby Aresty, James Currie, Einar Torfi Einarsson, Tim Feeney, Jez riley French, Sarah Hennies, Eva-Maria Houben, Ben Isaacs, Evan Johnson, Christian Kesten, Dmitri Kourliandski, Joseph Kudirka, Christof Migone, David Pocknee, Matt Sargent, James Saunders, Andrea Steves, and Shannon Werle, among others, performed by Buffalo-based performers as well as guests such as Alejandro Acierto, Brandon Bell, Tim Feeney, Sarah Hennies, Krista Martynes, and Philip Thomas. The initiative’s projects have been funded by the arts councils of Western New York, New York, and Toronto, as well as by universities across the US and Canada, and have been presented in venues ranging from respected art music venues (Constellation Chicago, Hallwalls Contemporary Art Center) to rustbelt ruins (Silo City) to community spaces (WASH Project, Cincinnati Public Library).
