Janet Arms – Principal Flute New York City Opera
Janet Arms has, for the past 16 years, been a member of the New York City Opera orchestra, where she plays flute and piccolo. She has also performed and recorded with the New York Philharmonic, the Metropolitan Opera, as guest principal flutist with the St Louis Symphony in the US and throughout Europe. She has played with the Boston Symphony Orchestra in Boston, at Tanglewood, and on tour. Janet has soloed in the U.S. and abroad with the New York Chamber Soloists. Ms Arms has a decade long association with the Bard Festival Orchestra and the American Symphony Orchestra at Bard, and is a former member of the San Francisco Ballet orchestra. She now makes her home in New York where she is active in commercial recording. Recent chamber music activities include performances with musicians of the NYC Opera at Lincoln Center, and guest artist with the Eastern Shore Chamber Music Festival in St Michaels, Maryland. Ms Arms is a prizewinner in both the NY Flute Club competition and the Concert Artists International competition.
She made her recital debut at Carnegie Hall while completing her Masters degree at Juilliard, and has been an adjudicator and guest master class artist at NY Flute Club events. Ms Arms received her Bachelors degree from The Hartt School, where she is now a member of the flute faculty.
Christopher Ladd, guitar
Award winning guitarist Christopher Ladd is rapidly becoming known throughout the country as one of the most promising young classical musicians. Fingerstyle Guitar hails his performances as being “… rendered confidently and expressively.” Praised as “… an exercise in extremes.” by Soundboard Magazine, he is highly sought after as a soloist and chamber musician.
Performances of note as a soloist or as part of an ensemble include the DiMenna Center in New York City, the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C., the Viennese Opera Ball hosted by the Austrian Embassy, the historic Byrdcliffe Theater in Woodstock, NY and for former vice-president Al Gore at his residence in Washington, D.C.
In addition to performing pieces of standard repertoire, Mr. Ladd has premiered numerous new works by composers such as Robert Carl, Nolan Stolz, Lief Ellis, Kathryn Swanson, Ty Alan Emerson, Ernst Bacon and Phillip Houghton. Most recently he has had the opportunity to work with Grammy and Academy Award winning composer John Corigliano, in a performance of his work Troubadours for guitar and chamber orchestra conducted by Edward Cumming.
Mr. Ladd has been a prize winner in numerous competitions including the Appalachian Guitar Festival Solo Competition, American String Teachers Association Competition and was twice a semi-finalist in the prestigious Guitar Foundation of America International Competition.
He received his Bachelor of Music and Master of Music in Guitar Performance from Shenandoah Conservatory. During which he studied with Glenn Caluda, Joseph Mayes and Guy Bacon. He received the highly coveted Artist Diploma from The Hartt School where he studied with Richard Provost where he received a full scholarship as a member of the prestigious 20/20 Honors Chamber Music Program.
