Russell Podgorsek is a composer, violist, and electric guitarist. His recent awards and commissions include a NewMusicUSA Project Grant for a collaboration with NANOFiction and the Cordova Quartet, Six Memos for the Next Millennium for the Bel Cuore Saxophone Quartet, Songs for the Sane 3.0 and Reversal of Fortune for the Life/Art Dance Ensemble (CO), MicroSymphony for the Salisbury Symphony Orchestra (MD), and Lament and Lullaby for the Sudbury Youth Orchestra (Ontario, Canada). His work Annachronism for solo violin was featured on the 2014 i care if you listen Summer Mixtape. He was also featured as composer-in-residence at the Simsbury Chamber Music Festival (CT) in 2008. He earned his DMA at the University of Texas at Austin, where he studied with Donald Grantham, Dan Welcher, and Russell Pinkston – and where he now serves as Lecturer. He is a graduate of both the Hartt School of Music (CT) and the University of Dayton (OH).
Flavour Symmetries – I. Baryon Decuplet
Flavour Symmetries was commissioned by Tetractys New Music for the 2016-17 Concert Series. It was premiered on 11/17/16 in Austin, TX by Nick Goodwin, flute; Nick Galuban, clarinet; Cristabel Lin, violin; and James Burch, cello.
Isha – performed by Hear No Evil with Andy Fleming, tenor on 9/30/17 at the Fine Arts Library at the University of Texas at Austin.
Isha is a musical tribute to the victims of the terrorist attack that occurred on January 29, 2017 at the Islamic Cultural Centre of Quebec. Six members of the congregation were gunned down just after evening prayers began. Their names are the text of the work, set loosely in the style of a call to prayer:

Annachronism – for baroque or modern violin

A solo work for violin using techniques and material borrowed from virtuoso violin music of the Baroque period. Originally written for Anna Griffis, hence the purposeful misspelling in the title.
