Rosie Langabeer is an award-winning composer/musician from Aotearoa New Zealand who works internationally, specializing in experimental musical arts processes.
Born into a musical family, Langabeer’s first musical experimentations began at home. These days her methods are evolutionary with a large focus on live new music in theatrical settings. She has collaborated with BalletX, Matthew Neenan, Pig Iron Theatre Company, No Face Performance Group, Neil Feather, Subcircle Dance and has received numerous commissions and arts grants including a Bowerbird Sound Sculpture Commission for Design Philadelphia (2012) SOUNZ Community Commission (2009) three CNZ Arts Grants (2005, 2007, 2013) and two Barrymore awards for excellence in theatre (2011).
An expert improviser on piano, electronics and accordion her various projects include bands Super Meow (Sri Lanka), Golden Apples For Everyone with Margot Pierard and Caleb Robinson (NZ), The Sunset Club (Philadelphia), Zirkus (NZ) and Two To Tutu Too (with Neil Feather) (Baltimore). Langabeer has also created music for dance, theatre, landscaped public space, film, a double decker bus tour and the Tall Ship Gazela.
Langabeer has performed throughout Aotearoa New Zealand and in the USA, Mexico, France, Japan, Sri Lanka and the UK. Recent festival appearances include the Hawke’s Bay Arts Festival (NZ 2017), High Zero Festival (Baltimore, USA), Vail International Dance Festival (CO, 2015), Joyce Theater Ballet Festival (NY, 2015), Vitamin S Festival (Auckland, NZ, 2015) and Bowerbird’s John Cage Festival (PA, 2013).
