Venue Information

Scholes Street Studio

Brooklyn, NY

Centrally located in East Williamsburg, Scholes Street Studio is an 800 square foot rehearsal and performance space with an audience capacity of approximately 45. The studio is well equipped with a Yamaha C3 grand piano, drum kits, vibraphone, other percussion, PA, microphones, amplifiers, and recording equipment. It is a very comfortable place to work, with a private bathroom, kitchenette and plenty of restaurants nearby. The studio is at street level, making load in and out easy, with good insulation to mitigate noise bleed from the outside. People who play here are uniformly happy with the acoustic.

Our performance schedule focuses on classical, jazz and new music. We are particularly interested in augmenting our new music offerings, as we have an especially high regard for this genre and the musicians dedicated to it.

In addition to the new music featured on our attached performance schedule, I would like to point out that many new music ensembles have rehearsed here, including Hotel Elefant, Contemporaneous, Ensemble Moto Perpetuo, Ensemble Pamplemousse, Either/Or, AME, Victoire, Bearthoven, ICE, Rhymes with Opera, Mantra Percussion, Gutbucket, Transit, Red Light New Music, and ECCE Ensemble.

Our studio would be ideal for a residency. We would welcome the opportunity to work closely with a new music ensemble to support the preparation and presentation of innovative programs. Lacking the resources to pay musicians, we have been hesitant to explore opportunities for presenting and curation. An Impact Fund grant would help us bring us closer to realizing our mission of being a premiere space for developing and presenting new music.
