Shannon KurashigeSan Francisco, CA
Shannon Kurashige co-founded Sharp & Fine, a San Francisco-based dance company, with her sister, Megan Kurashige in 2011.
She also performs with Liss Fain Dance and has previously worked with Christian Burns, Alex Ketley, and Donald McKayle. She has performed the work of George Balanchine, William Forsythe, and Ohad Naharin.
She graduated from UC Irvine with a BFA in Dance Performance and a minor in biology. She received extensive training at North Carolina School of the Arts with the late Melissa Hayden and the San Francisco Conservatory of Dance under the direction of Summer Lee Rhatigan. She is also a visual artist and designer.
Solo from Love Songs by Sharp & Fine
This solo is an example of Shannon’s work as a choreographer and director alongside her sister for Sharp & Fine as well as an example of her performance work (woman in orange dress on the left from 8:31 to 10:01). The solo is an excerpt from Love Songs, a collaboration with opera singer Ina Rae. Love Songs is a 45 minute long dance in which the performers explore the idea of love through the boundaries between classical technique and contemporary experience.
Premiered at Z Space, San Francisco in July 2013.

This duet is an example of Shannon’s work for other choreographers. It (center couple starting at 2:10 and ending at 3:05) is an excerpt from Unknown Land, a dance choreographed by Liss Fain for Liss Fain Dance. Shannon performed Unknown Land at the Internationale Tanzmesse, a biennial festival and conference for contemporary dance in Dusseldorf, Germany.
