Nick DemopoulosBrooklyn, NY
Nick Demopoulos is guitarist, sound designer, performer and instrument creator. Nick’s primary pursuit is performing with his Smomid, a guitar-like interface and Pyramidi, a triangular midi interface resembling a console, instruments that he designed and built. . In January 2015 he released his first full length album of music created only with Smomid and Pyramidi instruments called Rhythms of Light. Some of the interests he explores and employs in his music are artificial intelligence, micro tonality and algorithmic improvisation. As a guitarist he worked with NEA Jazz master Chico Hamilton from 2008 to 2013 and recorded on the albums The Inquiring Mind, Revelation and Euphoric. He also released several recordings with Exegesis, a group that mixes jazz and electronic music. In 2008 Exegesis traveled on behalf of the State Department to conduct cultural diplomacy and perform in Bahrain, Yemen, Oman, U.A.E and Kuwait. Smomid, Pyramids, Lights, Computer Generated Melodies
In this video I’m playing my Smomid and Pyramidi instruments that I designed and built. The software I designed is analyzing what I am playing in real time and creating melodies and other materials based on it’s analysis. I can also use my Smomid interface to play drum and percussion parts. As you might have noticed my instruments also emit light so and I feel the visual aspect is a big component in my work.
