Experimental music composer Tareke Ortiz, born in Mexico City (1974) is a classical pianist , live theatrical musician, singer, composer of modern contemporary music, stage director, actor and facilitator of new approaches to thevocal work. His work has been presented at venues and artistic festivals like: Stratford Festival with Peter Sellars, Les Couleurs du Mond in Amiens France, Snaskrit Institute in India, Festival dei Due mundi in Spoleto Italy, Mexico Now in NY, Tajin Festival, Veracruz Mexico, Carnuntum, Austria Festival, La MaMa etc., TheKitchen and other venues in NY, The Gate Theatre and the Tate Britain Gallery with Wolfgang Tillmans in London, Lincoln Center NY with his Voice Quartet Mi Gallo etc. He works on the promotion of language rights and nonviolent communication both at indigenous communities in Mexico as well as inmigrant population in USA and Latin America. The creation of intercultural and pedagogical creative technologies of art are some of the main aims to his work . He is currently Artistic Director of the Cumbre Tajin Festival.
Life’s A Dream (or Undefined Fraction) – work in progress
Life’s a Dream (or Undefined Fraction) is a puppet theatre dance piece inspired by the Spanish-language play by Pedro Calderón de la Barca— Life’s A Dream—which traces the patterns of inequality and reflects on the principles of justice, guilt, punishment and the conflict between free will and fate.
It will have it’s world premiere at La MaMa in November 2015 and will be performed with live musicians and singing by Tareke Ortiz
