Gareth Flowers is a trumpeter originally from Arlington, Virginia, and has been based in New York City since 2000. After studies at the Juilliard School with foci on performance and music technology, he began performing with the International Contemporary Ensemble (ICE), earning a reputation in contemporary music which has garnered critical acclaim from the New York Times. He has performed with TILT Brass, Either/Or, the Wet Ink Ensemble, the Argento New Music Project, the Tri-Centric Orchestra, as well as all of the Lincoln Center orchestras.
He has recorded for Philip Glass, John Adams, David Byrne, St. Vincent, Anthony Braxton, Gabriel Kahane, DuYun, Anthony Coleman, Dave Nelson, and many other unique musicians including the major orchestras of Seoul, Philadelphia, and Baltimore. ICE’s recording of Matthias Pintscher’s Sonic Eclipse on Kairos is particularly notable.
In 2009, he formed the outre electro-pop duo the Batteries Duo, which released its first record in July 2010, Les Amusements. In2011 he released Acousmatic, a sequence of solo electro-acoustic improvisations. Redefine Magazine called Acousmatic “…gorgeous or shimmery, or gorgeously shimmery…” His most recent project is titled A Beginner’s Guide to Lucid Dreaming and it received accolades from the cassette tape community, including FACTMag’s ‘best tapes of 2013’ list. Summer 2014 brings a vinyl collaboration titled Silent Period with guitarist and sound guru Josh Mason.
