Timbre CierpkeNashville, TN
As a harpist, vocalist, composer, and songwriter, Timbre Cierpke is pioneering new sounds in both classical and commercial music, drawing from both worlds to create a truly unique sound. Timbre has been commissioned to compose string quartets, a’capella choral works, and full orchestra compositions, including a yearly commission by the Jackson Symphony in Jackson TN.
Timbre has recorded and performed with notable artists such as Jack White, Tom Jones, Ricky Skaggs, as well as rock bands like mewithoutYou, with over 50 albums credits so far. As a harpist and vocalist, she has performed all over the world, from Notre Dame in Paris to Carnegie Hall in NYC, including performing her own compositions with full orchestra in cathedrals throughout Scandinavia.
Timbre is one of three artistic directors of professional a’capella choir SONUS, and serves as their Rehearsal Director.
Timbre also fronts her neoclassical folk-rock band “Timbre”, which has toured extensively in Europe and America. Their latest album, Sun & Moon, has been called “exquisite” (PopMatters) and “a gorgeous tapestry of audible poetry.” (Earmilk)
Night Girl: Nycteris Sees the Sun
From my album “Sun & Moon”, this piece is written for harp & soprano (performed by the composer), cello, drums, choir, tuned wine glasses, and brass.
Inspired by MacDonald’s”The Love Song of Photogen and Nycteris”,it is sung from the perspective of Nycteris, a girl who has lived her entire life in darkness. The song takes place just after Photogen tells her of the day and the sun, and explores her decision to come out of her cave to see it. It ends with a musical depiction of the pain and glory of seeing light for the first time.
