Tracy Cox

New York, NY

Hailed by LA Weekly as a “force of nature”, soprano and Fat Politics activist Tracy Cox is a performer and artist whose talent has been recognized by those in the highest echelons of the industry, garnering her a Sullivan Foundation Award, the Birgit Nilsson Prize at Operalia and the Kirsten Flagstad Award from the George London Foundation.

Tracy co-created the popular web series, “Angry Fat People” with bass Matthew Anchel, which takes a light-hearted pop culture approach to serious issues faced by fat performers. She has been interviewed by the New York Times on fat politics and restaurant accessibility, and currently has over 11,000 followers on Instagram where she regularly unpacks fat performance, fashion, and politics.

Tracy’s outspoken commitment to diversity in the performing arts has made her an in-demand consultant for singers, competitions and opera companies alike.

Tracy has always enjoyed illustration and design, and in 2012 she began her tumblr web comic, “Show Pony”, which centered on the life experiences of a burgeoning opera singer. She has since been commissioned by Wolf Trap Opera, Musique3Femmes for their campaign “The Next Wave”, which envisioned a bold future of female leadership in classical music, and countless creatives for her illustrations and watercolors.

Tracy holds a BA and MM from UCLA, and completed fellowships with LA Opera’s Domingo-Thornton Young Artist Program, Caramoor, Ravinia-Steans, Wolf Trap Opera, the Miami Music Festival Wagner Institute, and Music Academy of the West.
