Troika
New York City, NYTroika is a New York City based percussion group that began with the immersion of relationships through combined duos and now a trio since 2016. The members immediately began to collaborate on a common goal which was to expand the capabilities of percussion, nature, and technology. The universe itself seems to follow a law of threes, and Troika Trio believes that the expansion of repertoire for trios within percussion must follow this theory.
Troika is made up of Paulina Michels, Kasey Blezinger, and Shelby Blezinger-McCay. The three have been working together in not only music but in life through overlapping relationships within academic involvement and professional work. They have performed with nationally recognized ensembles, traveling across the United States, China, and Poland. Their collective experiences have built the foundation of their vision to invite cross-cultural musical styles to percussion, to promote collaborative efforts, and specifically to invite new composers, and in particular women, to compose for percussion. Troika sees an opportunity to push the foundation and innovation of the traditional trio to create and pioneer a fusion of new music.
