Will Redman

Baltimore, MD

Will Redman is a composer, percussionist, and teacher from Baltimore, MD. His compositions employ confounding extensions and extrapolations of traditional music notation in order to elicit radical interpretation by the performers. Current ensembles include the avant rock/jazz group Microkingdom, the percussion quartet Umbilicus, and the chamber group The Compositions. Will’s music has been performed, broadcast, and written about in the U.S. and abroad, including: Notations 21 (cover image), The Baltimore Sun, New Music Box, Pitchfork, The Wire, BBC3, Resonance FM, WFMU, SCI, Mobtown Modern, Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival, June In Buffalo, Time Stands Still, and the High Zero festival.

Book: Thelema Trio

This is an arrangement made from my large graphic score “Book”. The full score is 98 pages, un-numbered and without performance instructions. The score may be used any way the performers wish. This arrangement uses seven pages of the score and includes additional instructions written into the score as well as a set of performance directions.

Narrative Is Fugitive

A new score completed in early 2014. For two treble clef instruments. Uses conventional and invented notation. Partially open form. No instructions. Performers make all interpretive decisions.
