Edmar Castaneda plays “Entre Cuerdas” at NPR Music Tiny Desk Concert
By DC Jazz Festival
Edmar Castaneda showcases his mastery of the Colombian harp. NPR Music noted: “He’s adapted intricate traditional fingerpicking techniques to play jazz melodies along with the Afro-Cuban tumbao (bass line). He can switch between rural Colombian dance music and jazz with a twist of his wrist. Literally.” An interview begins at 7:10. At 7:28, he demonstrates the traditional way of playing Colombian harp and compares it to the style he has developed, in which he uses his left hand to play a bass line and right hand to play the melody like a piano.
