Robert Johnson’s Review of our New York Season/Heaven’s Dust
This season, however, the bulk of the repertoire consisted of duets, and that’s when 10 Hairy Legs donned its Technicolor Dream Coat… Randy James’ re-choreographed premiere, “Heaven’s Dust,” shows men struggling and holding hands, yet its restless patterns suggest a vision of alienation.

Heaven’s Dust World Premiere
Our season at New York Live Arts prominently featured Randy James’ “Heaven’s Dust” which was performed on 6/12 and 6/14/15. It was stunning and received great audience response. The final score by Michael Wall was haunting and beautiful, and Dorian Wallace’s playing (and humming) were moving.

Quote from Composer Michael Wall
It has been over 10 years since Randy and I have worked together and I am very excited to create “Heaven’s Dust.” I am using solo piano for the first three sections. This project already has music for the fourth section, by Robert Benford. So it is really fun for me to have that already in place…I know how to end the score at least.

“Heaven’s Dust” Photos
Earlier this season we performed “Heaven’s Dust” as a preview. Here are some photos, minus our new costumes which are being designed, added sections and newly composed music.
“Heaven’s Dust” features a cast of 3 with newly commissioned music – part improvisation by Robert Benford (Xylophone) and part a new composition by Michael Wall (Piano and Guitar). The work will be in 4 sections (three re-worked and a new trio); duet, solo, duet, trio. The first section will be previewed at The Theatre at Raritan Valley Community College on November 9, 2014 (with live Xylophone accompaniment) and at at Crossroads Theatre, New Brunswick in Spring 2015. The full work will have its World Premiere during our New York Season June 11-14 (NYLA), with live music at all performances. Excerpts will be performed/taught during residencies on tour at universities. The work will also be performed during our summer festival season and during New York appearances in Fall 2015. It will enter the permanent repertory of the company and be revived in future seasons when it may be performed with live musical accompaniment or the recording that will be made this season. Originally created for a man and a woman, James re-envisions the work that reflects how we push each other’s buttons through the lens of an all-male cast. This work was originally commissioned to appear on a program at St.Mark’s Church for a benefit for Dancers Responding to Aids. James was awarded his third Choreographic Fellowship from NJSCA this spring. He has chosen to re-envision and expand “Heaven’s Dust,” with the inspiration of the men of 10 Hairy Legs.

“…a quieter, and more delicate affair in which subtle gestures are important…” – Robert Johnson, The Star-Ledger.
“The work displayed moments of great emotion ranging from passion to remorse. At times Mr. Sciscione’s energies were extroverted and then suddenly he would pull them tightly to his body as if fearful. He used his body to articulate that which could not be expressed in words by a display of raw emotion. Bravo! – Darrell Wood, NYC Dance Stuff – 2013
Composed by Tigger Benford in 2014 . From the album “Vessel of Gratitude.” Rhythmic, pulsing and dynamic – driven by Benford’s deep percussive roots and influences.
A new collection of 9 medium tempo tracks in 4/4 by Michael Timothy Wall.
