Movement 1 of “The Ancient Beauty” by Chen Yi. “Taotie” is the fierce animal-like patterns on bronze wine vessels used in primitive sacrificial ceremonies during the Shang dynasty. This auspicious symbol had the power to protect again evil. The ferocious beauty of the bronze art represents the irresistible force of historical inevitability.
